EDTalks is a lively series of networking and education events that engages young professionals in public education issues in the Twin Cities. Each program features two compelling 20-minute presentations by cutting-edge educators, youth advocates, journalists, artists and others, along with ample time for conversation and networking.

EDTalks is presented by AchieveMpls and The Citizens League in partnership with Young Education Professionals - Twin Cities,  andYoung Professionals of Minneapolis. It is sponsored by a generous donation from the Verne C. Johnson Family Foundation with additional support from the Bush Foundation

Join us for our November EDTalks with dynamic presentations by Former Minneapolis Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Bernadeia Johnson and local high school student Coralie Maldonado!  

Dr. Bernadeia Johnson served as Superintendent of Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) from 2010-2015, overseeing a district of 35,000 students and 7,000 staff and working diligently to improve education outcomes and close the city’s wide achievement gap. She grew up during the civil rights era in Selma, Alabama, spending summers with her grandparents in Minnesota. ANational Board Certified Teacher, she has also served as MPS Deputy Superintendent and a principal, assistant principal and teacher in both Minneapolis and St. Paul. 

Coralie Maldonado is a junior at North High School in North St.Paul, Coralie Maldonado is a proud member of the Minnesota Youth Leadership Council and president of her school’s new social justice group STAND (Solidarity through the Annihilation of the Normality of Discrimination). Coralie also serves as a counselor for a St. Paul after-school program and mentors elementary students through SWAG (Students Working on the Achievement Gap). She has participated in the Youth Activist Summit, the Facing Race Awards and several other community projects.
