Stefon BIONIK Taylor is a producer in the truest sense of the word. In the competitive world of 1990s professional recording studios, aspiring engineers were hired on the promise of cool factor alone. They interacted with established stars and like any profession, were subject to a stringent weed-out process. For BIONIK the thrill of creating music was enough. Aside from his intern tasks at Chicago Recording Company (CRC), he sought to learn every aspect of recording and producing. It wouldn’t be long before this focus caught the attention of Grammy award winning producer Peter Mokran (R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Flaming Lips). As a mentor he found in BIONIK someone who excelled technically and was capable of working under rigorous conditions with the most demanding and elite clients. CRC in those days played host to R. Kelly, Aliyah, The Winans Family, Smashing Pumpkins, Izzy Straddlin, Billy Ocean, Sting, James Cotton and Junior Wells. BIONIK worked closely with each of them and many more. He is credited on these albums in the capacity of engineer, assistant engineer, instrumentalist or producer. He was even invited to The U.K. on numerous occasions to produce a group of Hip-Hop fusion albums for Scottish Soul legend John Martyn.
Throughout the years BIONIK also worked with acts like ED O.G., Tamara Savage, Phil Collins, MC Lyte, Lady Saw, Everton Blender, Johnny Osborne and Frankie Paul. After relocating to Los Angeles, he engineered and produced albums for Far East Movement, Ice-T, Too Short, Aceyalone, Treasure Davis, Ras Kass, Kool Keith, Volume 10, MC Zulu, Baby Bash and Lil’ Rob.
Since moving his studio to Minneapolis, as well as continuing to produce for artists such as Lizzo, Chali 2na, Kurupt, Mr Lif, Slug, Mr Gene Poole and GRRRL PRTY, BIONIK’s focus has become bringing the studio to the stage. His all original live performances are commanding, interactive and unique, utilizing live arrangement, DJing, singing/playing and beat making. In front of a crowd, the compelling nature of Bionik’s one of a kind show reveals itself. BIONIK has honed his sound from a melting pot of urban genres and experiences. Hip hop, Trap, EDM, reggae, dancehall, R&B, soul and funk all influence BIONIK’s distinct style that dominates the club and penetrates the mind.
BIONIK’s music and productions are also featured in many movies, video games, television shows and commercials including: Lottery Ticket, The Fast and the Furious 3: Tokyo Drift, Fast and Furious 6, Entourage, Love and Hip Hop, C.S.I.: NY, The “L” word, Las Vegas, “So You Think You Can Dance”, The Castle, Lincon Heights, Dirt, Skinz, Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, Gossip Girl, and various EA Sports videogames.
