Since it’s 2012 debut Chris Bates’ Red 5 has been slowly expanding it’s personnel and in turn expanding the compositional scope of bassist / leader Chris Bates. First the addition of guitarist Thomas Nordlund added a new harmonic and textural glue to the ensemble. Last year brought the sound and timbral vibrations of trombonist JC Sanford. These stellar musicians are a perfect addition to the lineup and allow Bates’ writing to expand into more orchestral and lush territories while retaining it’s solid, groove based foundation. After playing four shows last year at the Black Dog the band returns to the Icehouse stage, where it made it’s debut, with new songs and reimagined versions of the material from their critically acclaimed 2012 album ‘New Hope’.  Please join us for  Chris Bates’ RED 5 at JT’s Jazz Implosion at the Icehouse on Monday February 5th at 9:30pm.
