Finesse:

Finesse is a pop duo inspired by 1982, created for 2017. Members Patrick Donohoe (CLAPS, Principality) and Jeff Cornell (Posh Lost fka Gloss, Pale Spectre) recall memories of the forward-looking, second wave of synth pop. They function as what Simon Reynolds describes as the “Composer-operator and the Singer-lyricist”, or the “Fire-and-Ice” combo.

Donohoe’s themes of longing, memory, and aspiration recall Pet Shop Boys, George Michael, and Naked Eyes. Underneath Donohoe’s vocal leaps and bounds are Cornell’s glistening, mirror ball arrangements, combining electronic rigidity with jaunting melodies. This creates a synthetic-soul landscape that is both instantly recognizable and unique to the duo’s chemistry.

Strange Relations:

Minneapolis diary rock band Strange Relations, featuring Casey Sowa (drums/vocals) and her girlfriend Maro Helgeson (bass/synth), don't fit the typical mold of a pop group. Building tracks around a propulsive rhythm section, Strange Relations feed off their long term relationship to capture an energy and intimacy that cannot be forced or faked, weaving through each track like a burst of fresh air through the haze.

Vulnerable yet strong, glossy to grainy, bold or subdued, Strange Relations demonstrate what can blossom when you refuse to follow the rules. The two-piece delve into the ups and downs of living as women in a world where one's body is a central force in shaping one's experience. All throughout the record women's bodies and sexualities are centered, as the focus shifts from external to internal and back again. Editorial You (2017) thrives by refusing to turn away from the darkness, instead addressing it head-on, offering up a sense of sisterhood and defiance as weapons to fight through and pull light back into the darkest spaces. Honest and powerful, Editorial You is an album made just for the real you.

c.Kostra:

c.Kostra’s music captures the optimistic vibe of warped sentimental soul while referencing vast catalogs of shoegaze, hip-hop, electronic, vaporwave and UK garage. Olcott’s distinguishable songwriting trademarks are presented effortlessly as gorgeous lo-fi pop masterpieces. He recently released the debut album “Now I Feel It”, a collection of surreal distinctive lo-fi R&B crafted with an unexpected soulful vocoder and tons of hooks by Pytch Records, a new Minneapolis electronic label ran by Olcott and Nikki Pfeifer.

c.Kostra is Ryan Olcott's solo thing. It's more or less smooth psychedelic karaoke 4-track R&B. Former frontman of 12 Rods, Mystery Palace and Foodteam, Ryan re-reemerges as a beat-y cassette noir crooning vocodist.
