Collapsing Stars

From the land of endless winter, Twin Cities based Collapsing Stars have been quietly making a name for themselves throughout the American west. Blending blues, roots, folk, and Americana sounds with a hint of modernity, comparisons range from Iron & Wine and the Lumineers, to the Black Keys and Ben Harper. In the last few years they've earned producer credits on a record for Rhymesayers Entertainment (Atmosphere, Brother Ali, deM atlaS), played a showcase at the renowned Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, and in 2016 performed for over 120K people at Red Bull Crashed Ice. Their debut record titled '2012' has received some noteworthy accolades including praise from Dan Wilson, the Semisonic frontman who has co-written songs for the Dixie Chicks, John Legend, Weezer, and Adele's 2011 hit Someone Like You. In 2018 they were selected as an official SXSW artist out of a pool of over 8K applicants.  NPR Music named them a top 100 artist to watch at SX out of 2K showcasing acts. They are currently on tour to promote their first full length album titled '2012.'

Almighty American

"With a deep appreciation for the songwriting greats of his father’s generation, drummer-turned-guitarist Michael Gay has set out to leave his own mark. Beginning as a bedroom songwriting project, Almighty American was conceived with the release of the On the Edge EP (April 2015) produced and recorded by Nate Washburn (Author, The Earth and Everything in It, Comrades, Hannah Huston).

While On the Edge brought about a full-band lineup and arrangements, Gay’s honest, accessible writing and clever lyrics easily captured the attention of listeners on their own in more intimate environments. Relishing the atmosphere of the acoustic set, Gay found himself more regularly playing solo sets under the Almighty American moniker. These solo shows birthed the idea for a series of stripped down acoustic EPs that reach the listener in a more focused way. Gay released the first of these - Songs With Legs vol. 1 (January 2017) to a sold out Warming House in Minneapolis.

With two EPs under his belt, Gay was eager to craft Almighty American’s first full length. Before Songs with Legs vol. 1 was released, Gay approached Danny O’Brien (The Farewell Circuit, Fraea, DEM YUUT, M. French) to produce the record, utilizing some of his favorite local players (Andrew Schibilla, Beck Nebel, Joel Bowers). Together, the band set to work on what would become Somewhere Ride. The album was tracked at both Studio 65 (Chris Furst) in Ham Lake, MN and Hot Dad Labs (Danny O'Brien) in South Minneapolis over a period of several months. The result is a modern Americana album with timeless character.

The first single, “Bus Brakes” was released in April 2017 with a debut on 89.3 The Current, turning listeners on to the infectious energy that is found throughout the rest of Somewhere Ride. Ear to the Ground Music featured the track on their blog saying, “The imagery is somewhere between Isbell and Boxcar Willie… That said, he’s as much the real deal as an Americana artist can get.”

Somewhere Ride will be released on June 30, 2017 in physical form and across most digital avenues."
