Button Poetry at Icehouse: Blythe Baird Release Party:

Author Blythe Baird, whose poems have been watched by millions around the world, is releasing her debut book If My Body Could Speak in early February 2019. At the release party, Baird will perform and bring her book to life, alongside Fatima Camara and Nick Jordan. 


Blythe Baird:

Blythe Baird is a poet, youth educator, and actress. Her work has been featured by GLAMOUR, The Huffington Post, NEDA, EverydayFeminism, TEDx, Mic, and more. In 2016, she achieved the #1 and #4 most watched poems of the year on Button Poetry and was recognized as a finalist for the EduZine Global Young Achiever Award. In 2017, she won the ADCAN short film award in Los Angeles and took first place in the Art With Impact competition. She graduated from Hamline University in 2018 with dual degrees in Creative Writing and Women's Studies. She lives in Minneapolis and is working on her next book.


Nick Jordan:

Nick Jordan is a Minneapolis-based singer, songwriter, producer, and mover. Incorporating elements of funk, soul, and house, his debut EP NJ was released in the fall of 2015. Six months later, Jordan was named 2016's Best R&B Artist by City Pages. Often accompanied by his fellow movers, Jordan's live show is a one-of-a-kind experience. His energy and attention to detail also landed him in the top 3 of 2016's Best Live Acts via the Star Tribune, tying with Har Mar Superstar and the legendary Revolution. More recently, Jordan was crowned the winner of Star Tribune's 8th annual "Are You Local?" Best New Band search. He released his sophomore EP Dividends in the summer of 2017 to local acclaim, and was later named one of Minnesota's "Picked to Click" artists to watch.


Fatima Camara:

Fatima Camara is a 22 year old spoken word artist from Minneapolis, MN and is currently is working as the apprentice for TruArtSpeaks - an arts based non-profit organization that cultivates literacy, leadership, and social justice through the study and application of spoken word and Hip Hop culture. Along with her apprenticeship, she has served as the program associate for the Be Heard slam team since 2015. She has performed at many colleges and universities such as Macalester, Augsburg, Hamline, and the University of Minnesota,  has been fortunate enough to share stages with poets like Danez Smith, Guante, Sierra DeMulder, and more. Fatima is currently working on her first novel and hope to finish her undergrad and become an arts educator in the Minneapolis Public Schools District.
