week #3 featuring:
I: ABY WOLF & ERIC MAYSON
II: JT BATES’ GRAIN TRIO
Zacc Harris is our Monday Night Jazz Resident and Guest Curator for the month of December!
This Monday features sets with:
ABY WOLF & ERIC MAYSON
Aby Wolf is a passionate collaborator with an elastic skillset. Whether writing vocal arrangements for Dessa's wildly successful appearances with the Minnesota Orchestra, fulfilling commissions from American Composers Forum, Prairie Fire Lady Choir, and Cedar Cultural Center, or performing with everyone from The New Standards and Chastity Brown to JT Bates' Grain Trio, Aby brings a palpable element of joy to whatever endeavor she pursues.
As the “poster child of entropy," it’s no surprise that Eric Mayson’s music and live performance is a journey from disbelief into knowing and back again; he understands music as a way to move through space. In an aerial shot, Mayson’s wide-ranging style stretches from minimalist electropop to smooth R&B, progressive soul, and straight hip-hop, while visiting grinning pop, rock and roll, and operatic arrangements.
Aby and Eric link up onstage in an effervescent kinship, holding the room rapt throughout their progressive duo set: a dynamic body of music borne of a marathon fever dream writing session inspired by MacLean's triune brain model of vertebrate forebrain evolution, the deliciously trippy sci-fi horror film Annihilation, and tequila.
JT BATES’ GRAIN TRIO
JT Bates (drums) / Kevin Gastonguay (hammond B3) / Zacc Harris (guitar)
Grain Trio was formed as a vehicle to rumble the foundations of the city with the low end power of the hammond B3. Definitely coming out of the foundations of the early meetings of rhythm and blues/jazz and gospel, however, not limited to that.
