Greta Ruth:
Join us for an evening of music in celebration of The Fawn, the debut full-length album by experimental folk singer/songwriter Greta Ruth. This night marks The Fawn's re-release to cassette on Chicago label American Dreams Records. Solo performances by J.E. Sunde, Brandon Wozniak, and Greta Ruth.
Greta Ruth is an experimental folk singer/songwriter from Minnesota. With finger-style guitar and poetic vocals, her music is a meeting-point of softness and dissonance.
"Poem & tone. Guitar & voice. Language & harmony. Song as a way to sit with, move through, & heal from experience. Softness & dissonance. Reflection & dynamic stillness. The tension of opposites & the alchemy of internal work."
J.E. Sunde:
J.E. Sunde (Jonathan Edward Sunde) is a songwriter and composer based out of Minneapolis, MN. Jon studied western classical music with a vocal emphasis at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. Starting in college, Jon spent ten years making beautifully unusual music with The Daredevil Christopher Wright. He has since released three solo records with his most recent record, “9 Songs About Love,” released in November of 2020. With a love of songwriters and performers like Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone, and Paul Simon, Jon writes densely poetic songs with a bent toward the philosophical. Also, his voice sounds like some sort of weird angel.
Brandon Wozniak:
One of Minnesota’s most exciting saxophonists. He returned to the twin cities in 2006 after six years in New York City and a six month stint in Shanghai, China. Wozniak studied music at Indiana University with David Baker and privately with Tom Walsh. Brandon performs regularly with Dave King’s(Bad Plus, Happy Apple drummer) Dave King Trucking Company with saxophonist Chris Speed, the Atlantis Quartet(City Pages Best Jazz Artist 2011, Star Tribune Best Jazz Artist 2012), Bryan Nichols Quintet, Chris Bates Red 5, Vector Families, Zacc Harris Group, Lars Larson’s Mancrush plus many other projects. Brandon has also performed with Eric Kamau Gravatt(Weather Report, McCoy Tyner), singer Nellie McKay, toured with the Tommy Dorsey Jazz Orchestra and shared the stage with Francisco Mela(Joe Lovano’s US Five), Steve Davis, David Berkman, Ben Wendel and Dennis Gonzalez. Brandon’s newest collaboration is a band called Acoustic Deathwish with the great bassist Anthony Cox and drummer Dave King. We are currently recording our first record and hope to tour as soon as it’s safe to do so.
