ALL AGES

Years ago, John Magnuson was in a Minneapolis band called the Carpetbaggers. John played rhythm guitar and wrote/sang many of the band's songs. The Carpetbaggers enjoyed some notoriety in the mid-to-late 90s when the band did three tours with Son Volt and shared the stage with such notables as Los Lobos, Alison Krauss, Dick Dale, the Jayhawks, and Paul Westerberg. In November of 2020, John released a record called Barely Noticeable. Half of the album is Indie/Folk-Rock-ish, and the other half is pretty much the same, except with a little more twang. When performing, John primarily plays his original material, with a few covers mixed in for good measure.

The trio, tonight: John Magnuson / John Sandbo (drums) Nick Salisbury (bass)

Gini Dodds & The Dahlias: After taking a songwriting course taught by Ray Davies of The Kinks in the late 90’s, Saint Paul native Gini Dodds began writing, recording and performing in the Twin Cities with her band, The Dahlias, featuring lead guitarist Terry Isachsen (Curtiss A, Flamin’ Ohs, Red Flag, James Loney), drummer John ‘ Bongo’ Haga (Rock-a-Dots, Curtiss A, Them Dots, Hypstrz, Rockin’ Hollywoods), bass player Jeffrey Willkomm (Curtiss A, Nip n’ Tuck) and keyboardist Gregg Inhofer (Brainiac, Olivia Newton John, Peter Noone, Badfinger, Curtiss A).

Pulling from both British and American influences, she has been described as a cross between Chrissie Hynde and Lucinda Williams.  Sweet Christine, a song off her first CD, Mellowdrama, was a winner in the Nashville Songwriters Assocation songwriting contest. Follow up albums include Good Medicine and Jangle Twangle. Gini’s song Lifelines was also recorded for a tribute to recording artist Slim Dunlap.
