Fuzzy Math, a staple of the Twin Cities scene for over a decade, was formed by keyboardist/composer/sometimes-vocalist Mark Vandermyde, a classically-trained pianist and organist who began migrating from Mozart to Miles in middle school, studied theory and composition at Harvard University, bounced around with various blues and jazz groups in the Twin Cities, eventually rediscovered his interest in composing and launched this project which has been as enjoyable and rewarding (in a ‘non-pecuniary’ sense) as he had hoped. A main reason is that he’s also been fortunate to surround himself with some of the best players on the local scene: currently Brian Handeland on saxophones, Charlie Lincoln on bass and Haralds Bondaris on drums, brilliantly intuitive musicians who give life to Mark’s vision of creating music that is interesting, accessible and fun…serious music that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Come hear their signature eclectic blend of original songs and creative pop covers that the StarTribune named to its Best of Minnesota list as “best jazz act for people bored with jazz”. Which they took as a sign that they were succeeding in their mission.
Nelson Devereaux has played various wind instruments with bands like Bon Iver, Paul Cherry, Craig Finn and Mild High Club among others- he enjoys blowing air from his lungs into differently shaped tubes.
Dave Power has toured internationally with multiple acts such as The Staves, Aero Flynn, and Moon Ruin and currently plays with Solid Gold, Bathtub Cig, PRINTS, 58 Belvedere, and more.
Together they are Power/Devereaux.
