Maria and the Coins bundle big-picture pop ambition into earnest, indie sensibility. The five-some fuses singer-songwriter driven pop hooks with the vulnerability and honesty of an indie band.
Frontwoman Maria Coyne's powerhouse vocals are matched with emotive storytelling often focused on finding the light amidst a chaotic world. While the writing features nods to Coyne’s pop, country and theatre roots, the music finds its sweet spot behind alternative rock-influenced arrangements resulting in a sound often likened to Sara Bareilles, Michelle Branch, and James Bay. The band has opened for touring artists such as Christina Perri, Haley Reinhart, Betty Who, and Forest Blakk.
With the release of their latest album 'Forward', the band gained traction with local and national outlets like American Songwriter, Indie Spoonful, and Please Pass the Indie. “Movin’ On,” the first single from the album has received local and international radio play with 250k streams on Spotify.
The Twins of Franklin are not, in fact, twins. They are two dear friends and Minneapolis musicians Becky Shaheen and Laura Lou. After being regularly mistaken as twins for years as best friends, roommates, and each other’s solo backup singers, they decided to embrace the label when they formed their duo in 2017.
The twins released their debut album "Low" in February 2020, and are thrilled to share this very personal piece of work with the world. Tom Smouse of Music in Minnesota described it as an album that's "filled with traditional folk elements, with spouts of dance, pop, and even anthem rock. Each song takes you through a different lens and aspect of songwriting from The Twins of Franklin."
Their live set is fueled by their dynamic voices and incredibly talented seven piece band made up of some of their closest friends and family members.
Lauded as a “triple threat on vocals, fiddle and composition” (Star Tribune), Jillian Rae is a fiercely unique spirit who cares more about making authentic music than about fitting into a tidy box. The Minneapolis-based, classically trained violinist turned country fiddler has become a commanding international presence--writing powerful genre-bending songs, heading up her own critically acclaimed rock/pop band and backing up Grammy-winning acts like The Okee Dokee Brothers. Although she got her start playing with folk and country bands, Rae’s latest album I Can’t Be the One You Want Me to Be (2019) took a decided turn into pop and rock with unflinching, hard-hitting songs. It also showcased her orchestration abilities with layered violin tracks saturated in heavy grooves and moody arrangements. The album’s final track “Wayward One” was featured prominently in the hit Chinese film The White Storm 2 and has catapulted her into near stardom in China. Rae is also an in-demand producer and session player, known for her soaring pop orchestrations and fiddle parts. She is currently working on a new album.
