Take That Back is Joan Hutton (bass clarinet & alto saxophone), Sue Orfield (tenor sax), Ted Godbout (keys), Kameron Markworth (basses) and David Schmalenberger (drums). Joan and Sue started the group in 2018 in order to write and perform their original music. They released their first self-titled album in January 2022, and are currently working on their second.
Joan Hutton is a woodwind performer, composer and music educator residing in Minneapolis and hailing from Toronto, Canada. Her varied musical interests have led her over the years to classical, jazz, funk, free improvisation, pit orchestras and more. Joan Hutton is also an accomplished classical artist and is a member of the acclaimed ANCIA Saxophone Quartet. As a dedicated educator, Joan teaches a large studio of private clarinet and saxophone students around the Twin Cities and is the saxophone instructor at Augsburg University.
Sue Orfield is an award winning tenor saxophonist, educator and composer. She has recorded on hundreds of albums and has toured the U.S. consistently since 1992, and also regularly tours internationally with The Tiptons Sax Quartet & Drums. She fronts her own band (The Sue Orfield Band) and was for years the host of her own TV Show, The Sue Orfield Show. She makes her home in the Chippewa Valley of Wisconsin.
Jake Baldwin is a freelance trumpet player and vocalist living in Minneapolis, MN. He holds a bachelors of music from the New England Conservatory. He placed 3rd in the 2010 International Trumpet Guild’s Jazz Division, 2nd in the 2013 National Trumpet Competition’s Jazz division, and was a finalist in the 2019 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Competition. He can be seen performing locally and internationally with groups such as The Hold Steady, McNasty Brass Band, and the Four Freshmen in addition to recording for tv shows such as “Archer” and video games such as “Assassins Creed Valhalla”. In October of 2021 he realeased his first record, “Where You’re Planted” on the Shifting Paradigm label.
