A native of Osaka, Japan, Sachiko “La Chayí” Nishiuchi is a Twin Cities-based Flamenco dancer, teacher, choreographer and organizer. She has received recognition and grants from Minnesota State Arts Board, Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, the Jerome Foundation, the Minnesota SAGE Awards for Dance, and New York State Flamenco Certamen. She has presented her original dance works at the Walker Art Center, the Southern Theater, and the Intermedia Arts. Sachiko is the recipient of a 2017 McKnight Dancer Fellowship, administered by the Cowles Center and funded by the McKnight Foundation. She was a resident artist of Zorongo Flamenco under the guidance of director Susana Di Palma from 2003 to 2009. She lived and studied the art of Flamenco in Seville, Spain from 2010 to 2015 which became the foundation of her current dance and work. Sachiko is a certified STOTT PILATES® instructor.

Ross is a lifelong musician with a passion and curiosity for music that has taken him around the country and the world. He plays for dancer Sachiko “La Chayí” and Zorongo Flamenco Dance School. He has studied Flamenco in Madrid, Spain with El Entri, Jesus de Rosario and Killino Jimenez. In Sevilla, he has studied with Juan del Gasor, “El Perla,” Javier Heredia, and Luis Peña. He obtained his artistic name “El Vecino” from his maestro Juan del Gastor.

Drawn to dance from an early age growing up in Tokyo, Japan, "Eva" Makiko Laabs began her flamenco study with Susana di Palma at Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre in 2008. As a company apprentice, she performed in numerous Zorongo productions between 2014 and 2020. Since the pandemic, she has immersed herself in the study of flamenco cante online with Javier Heredia and La Rhina in Seville, Spain. She enjoys sharing her love of the art form with fellow compañeros of the Twin Cities Flamenco Collective.

Bobby “El Eléctrico”, Hand percussionist (Palmero)

Bobby “El Eléctrico” had been a Jazz lover throughout his life.  He started his Flamenco journey under the influence of his wife and dancer Sachiko.  He is a true aficionado listening to old-time Flamenco masters for hours everyday.  He has studied palmas and singing with Javier Heredia and Luis Peña. He enjoys doing palmas and jaleo giving good energy and vibes in performances. 

Daniel Volovets, Flamenco guitarist & guest artist

Daniel Volovets is a guitarist, composer, arranger, and instructor specializing in classical, flamenco, Latin-American, and jazz music. Balancing careers as a guitarist and physician while being one of the chief residents at the Hennepin-Regions Psychiatry Training Program this year, a few notable recent performances include being the on-stage guitarist for MN Opera's 2022 production of "Carmen” at the Ordway and an appearance on the Emmy-winning television program "Hippocrates Cafe: Reflections on the Pandemic,” for which he performed an original composition. He has also recorded seven full-length CDs as well as several EP-length releases.

Robin "La Rubina" Moede, Flamenco dancer & guest artist

Having studied music her whole life, Robin "la Rubina" Moede began studying Flamenco dance at Zorongo Flamenco in 2006 after she saw its performance and fell in love with the art form. She has a deep appreciation for the wonderful depth of knowledge of flamenco in the Twin Cities. She has studied with Susana di Palma, Colette Illarde, Deborah Elias, Sachiko “La Chayí” and Kristina de Sacramento. She is thankful to have found a community of friends who love 'la cultura de flamenco". She has attended the Festival de Jerez in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain several times and will return there again in 2023. She would like to thank her husband and her family for supporting her love for flamenco and Spain. ¡Olé!

Rachel Milloy, Flamenco singer

Rachel Milloy has studied many styles of world music as both a singer and a percussionist. In addition to flamenco, she has also studied and performed Middle Eastern, Indian, Balkan, and Argentine music. She has studied flamenco with the late and great artists Elena 'La Cordobesa' and Jesus Montoya, amongst others. She is currently working with the talented local Afghan singer Sear Azizi, and also drums with Yalla Drum Ensemble and the Twin Cities Daf Ensemble.
