ZACC HARRIS is our Monday Night Jazz Resident and Guest Curator for the month of December!
Zacc Harris has gained a reputation as one of the area's top guitarists, being named 2017 Twin Cities Best Jazz Artist by the City Pages. He performs in a host of creative projects including Atlantis Quartet, winner of the 2015 McKnight Fellowship and the Zacc Harris Group who recently released its second album, Small Wonders.
"Since he first moved to Minnesota from southern Illinois, this remarkably fluid guitarist has positioned himself at the center of the Twin Cities jazz world...Whether playing alongside the McKnight-winning Atlantis Quartet or fronting his own Zacc Harris Group, Harris makes his mark, incorporating lessons from the greats into his own forward-looking style." - City Pages
Pianist and composer Michael Cain began gaining international recognition in the mid 1980’s while still a student at the California Institute of the Arts, performing, touring, and recording with jazz greats James Newton, vocalist Marlena Shaw, the Gerald Wilson Orchestra, and drummer Billy Higgins among others. After moving to New York Cain became a first call pianist, working with drum legend Jack DeJohnette for nine years, as well as Dave Holland, Steps Ahead, Ravi Coltrane, Bobby McFerrin, Terence Blanchard, Stanley Turrentine, Pat Metheny, Eddie Levert, Charles Neville, Christian McBride, Vernon Reid, Chris Dave, Robin Eubanks, and Meshell N'degeocello among others. He has received numerous awards, including a 2006 Grammy nomination for Dance of the Infidel, Meshell N'degeocello's release on which Michael is pianist and co-arranger, and he has recorded several records as sideman and a leader, including his 1996 ECM release Circa. Michael’s latest release is entitled Hoo Doo.
Lars-Erik Larson is a drummer and composer based in St. Paul, MN. His group MANCRUSH features Bryan Nichols on keyboard, Brandon Wozniak on tenor saxophone, and Zacc Harris on guitar, and crafts an intentionally sparse musical landscape. As a composer, Larson attempts to bring a similar musical aesthetic as that of folk music and minimalism into jazz, with simple harmonies, strong melodies, and a commitment to a sparse musical aesthetic.
