Bombadil is a quartet of North Carolina and France-based multi-instrumentalists. They are pleased to announce their new album, In Color, to be released in early June 2023 on Ramseur Records. The band's 9th studio album focuses on the simple theme of color. What does color feel like? What does it sound like? In Bombadil's case: flute, drum machine, 80's Casio tones and classic 3 part-harmony vocals. Each song on the album represents a color: red is powerful and energetic, yellow is soft and shy like a spring morning, blue is the constant ocean, churning in their lives.

The album was made during the pandemic when they could not physically be in the same place. The songs were written across the Atlantic Ocean and the physical distance inspired the band to continue the idea of separateness when recording the album. The band played almost no instruments themselves. They brought in friends to play the guitar and bass. A female vocalist sang the melodies and played the flute. The rhythm section was composed of computer drum loops. All of this melds dynamically with the classic folk-pop sound of Bombadil.

In Color is a step forward for the band. Creativity takes front and center, and the band continues to share their unique perspective of existence. The expectations are high for this superb live band with a full schedule of performances throughout North America and Europe over the course of the next year.

Bombadil has performed in numerous festivals over the years including Bonnaroo, Floyd Fest and Pickathon and toured with acts such as the Avett Brothers, Dr. Dog, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Langhorne Slim and Kishi Bashi. The band has received press coverage in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and Paste, and their songs have been featured in the movies Trainwreck, The Dark Divide and the Hulu original series Runaways.

In 2015, Pat Keen began his self-titled project. Grounded in folk and hinting at an underlying pop-sensibility, his sound comfortably volleys between quiet, tender moments and technical bravado. He continues to put out solo work amidst studio and performance commitments in the Minneapolis area and across the US.

As a player and producer, Pat brings his roots in jazz into experimentation across all genres, challenging folk narratives and reshaping traditional instrumentation. Pat’s improvisational influence and extended techniques shine through his ensemble work, finding comfort in mixed meters, sophisticated harmonies and inventive instrumental manipulation. Regardless of what he’s doing, he exudes a contagious enthusiasm and warmth when performing.

Pat performs, records, composes and arranges in indie, rock, country, folk, and jazz settings. Having earned his bachelor’s degree in jazz performance from the New England Conservatory in Boston, Pat has studied with artists spanning a diverse spectrum such as Dave Holland, Cecil McBee, Joe Morris, Richard Davis, John McNeil, Don Palma, John Lockwood, Dominque Eade and Chris Weisman.
