Dylan Hicks & Small Screens is a six-piece band that blends pop, jazz, R&B, folk, chamber music, and freely improvised music. Hicks, who in addition to being a songwriter and pianist has worked as a novelist and critic, is joined in the group by multi-reedist Christopher Thomson, cellist Michelle Kinney, guitarist Zacc Harris, bassist Charlie Lincoln, and drummer Peter Hennig. For part of this Icehouse performance, the group will expand to a nonet to debut songs from its album-in-progress, a follow-up to 2022’s Airport Sparrows.
Shane Leonard is a record producer, musician, mix engineer, and songwriter who lives in Eau Claire, WI. Equally at home in many genres, those who've worked with Shane (Mipso, Foy Vance, Field Report, Rose Cousins, Sara Watkins, Josh Ritter, Larry Campbell) know him as a studio/live swiss army knife, helping artists' sounds evolve past previous benchmarks. NPR and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) have praised his production with descriptors like "goosebumps inducing" (NPR Music), "a monster musician" (Justin Vernon) and "exquisite" (Paste Magazine). Anna Tivel, Humbird, J.E. Sunde and others have entrusted multiple albums to his production; they reside alongside several releases of his own music - the most recent being Strange Forms (2019).
SPACE is a Minneapolis-based, modern jazz cooperative that seeks to bring the spontaneity and creative complexity of improvised music into playful collision with the performative intensity of rock-and-roll. SPACE’s all-original music immerses listeners in a radically egalitarian, ever-evolving sound story. SPACE has released two albums; their first recording “Non-Trivial Problem” was released in 2019 to critical acclaim and signaled the emergence of another serious jazz composer’s collective from Minnesota. Their second effort “The Approaching Coast”, released digitally last December, will receive a full CD release later this year.
