Sophia Kickhofel is our resident curator for Monday nights in June! This week features Peter Goggin Group and Michael Cain.
After moving to New York in 1990, Michael Cain became a first call pianist, working with drum legend Jack DeJohnette for nine years, as well as Dave Holland, Steps Ahead, Ravi Coltrane, Bobby McFerrin, Stanley Turrentine, Lauren Hill, Joshua Redman, Pat Metheny, Charles Neville, Christian McBride, John Scofield, Robin Eubanks, and Meshell N’degeocello, among others.
Peter Goggin has established himself as one of the top improvising saxophone players in Minnesota. After spending time at the University of Michigan, he has returned to the Twin Cities to work as a saxophonist, educator, and composer. In the summer of 2022 Peter performed as a featured artist at Off The Hook Arts’ “Summerfest”, an annual music festival held in Fort Collins, Colorado. He's recorded with multiple groups, most notably on Hoaxer's album "Crash Test" (2017). He's performed multiple times in the Twin Cities and Detroit Jazz Festivals, and was a representative at the IASJ's 2019 international Jazz Meeting in Zagreb, Croatia. Peter has studied with Andrew Bishop, Robert Hurst, Miles Okazaki, and Benny Green-- all of whom have left an indelible impact on his approach towards the study and creation of music.
