Set 1:
Abebi Stafford and Bayorhythm
Having a broad range of experiences, Abebi has played with Russell Malone, accompanied vocalist Deborah Brown, gave Kenny Garrett a piano lesson, and has been solicited by André 3000 from Atlanta based Outkast for his musical expertise on several occasions. “Even his name swings!” pianist Kenny Werner said of Stafford to friends after hearing his solo piano work and meeting him for the first time. Saxophonist Joel Frahm (Jane Monheit) said after playing with Abebi, “I haven’t heard many pianists with his strong sense of time and to me, that’s the most important thing.” Abebi has headlined in two major jazz festivals (Atlanta Jazz Festival and the Minneapolis Jazz Festival 2002). After he and his group “Bayorhythm” were named the “Future of Jazz” winners for “Future of Jazz Competition” in 2004 held in downtown Atlanta, he went on to perform internationally in cities like Berlin, Munich, Nuremberg, Frankfurt, Paris and Prague. He has produced two music albums complete with original work as well as jazz standards that have been internationally distributed; and has appeared on at least 5 compilation albums including an international released Steely Dan Tribute Album entitled, “Maestros of Cool”. In 2014, he released “Are Changing”, featuring his award winning group from 2004 “Bayorhythm”.
