JOSH GRANOWSKI is our Monday Night Jazz Resident and Guest Curator for the month of June!
*(( starting June 13th ))*
Longtime Midwesterner Josh Granowski has been making music in MN for more than a decade. He has played upright bass and bass guitar/fx with notable forward thinking improvisers/composers Davu Seru, George Cartwright, Dave King, DeVon Gray, and many other luminaries in and out of the Twin Cities. He also frequently performs in groups that specialize in earlier jazz/americana styles like The Southside Aces, Butch Thompson, Patty and the Buttons, Mumblin' Drew's Oldfangled Orchestrators, and Bobby J's West Bank Social Club. Tap dance festivals, basement noise shows, klezmer, 60's soul, countless americana acts.......Josh is not a stranger. He loves to make music and he is always open to something new.
Since the pandemic, he has enjoyed getting back to cultivating original/improvisational music in addition to recording with Marsgarb (a new band with friends Jenna Wyse and Chris Hepola), and playing dive bars with new dystopian space party pioneers The Real Chuck Norad.
Notes from the curator:
"I met Toivo on a gig last year and shortly after we started meeting up to play his original compositions and some genre-defying improvisation. I've enjoyed playing with Cory somewhat randomly over the past few years and I thought it would be great for the three of us to make music together, sort of a friends new and old first meeting vibe. For the most part we'll be playing Toivo's compositions, with Peter Goggin joining us for a portion of the set.
Peter and Charlie are no strangers to the Twin Cities music scene and when I heard they were playing with Alden as of late, I thought it would be great to hear what they are doing. From Ornette Coleman to Duke Ellington, they will interpret music throughout the jazz canon.
In between, I'm glad Patrick Marschke can bring something a little different to the table. Check his website to learn more.
Thanks, JKG"
