James Allen is a jazz guitarist who also plays a number of different styles. Originally from Australia he has been performing throughout the Twin Cities for the last 30 years both as a soloist and in a number of different bands. He has played with many well-known local musicians including Chris Lomheim, Vicky Mountain, Paul Harper, Chris Olson, Nathan Norman and others and has recorded with Vicky Mountain, Gypsy Mania, Bob Frey and Global Jazz.

In 2011 he received an Artists Initiative Grant from the Man State Arts Board to study Brazilian music in California and Brazil.

As a soloist and in his own duos and trios he plays electric and acoustic guitar concentrating on jazz (from standards to Monk) and bossa with some pop tunes added in.
