SOPHIA KICKHOFEL’S BATIK IRIS TRIO

ZACC HARRIS is our Monday Night Jazz Resident and Guest Curator for the month of December!

Zacc Harris has gained a reputation as one of the area's top guitarists, being named 2017 Twin Cities Best Jazz Artist by the City Pages. He performs in a host of creative projects including Atlantis Quartet, winner of the 2015 McKnight Fellowship and the Zacc Harris Group who recently released its second album, Small Wonders

"Since he first moved to Minnesota from southern Illinois, this remarkably fluid guitarist has positioned himself at the center of the Twin Cities jazz world...Whether playing alongside the McKnight-winning Atlantis Quartet or fronting his own Zacc Harris Group, Harris makes his mark, incorporating lessons from the greats into his own forward-looking style." - City Pages

Sophia Kickhofel's Batik Iris Trio

Sophia Kickhofel is an alto saxophonist from the Twin Cities area currently attending the Juilliard school in New York City. In addition, she has spent time playing renowned musicians including Sean Jones, Ulysses Owens Jr, and Camille Thurman. After moving to New York, Sophia realized the importance of nature in her life. Therefore, she developed the Batik Iris trio, named after the purple flower. The musical goal of the group is to present compositions that relate to and share the importance of nature.

Atlantis Quartet

Formed in 2006, Atlantis Quartet is at the forefront of the twin cities modern jazz scene, having toured the Midwest and East Coast while releasing five albums to critical acclaim. JazzTimes’ Bill Milkowski calls the band “startlingly original” and both the City Pages and Star Tribune have named them Best Twin Cities Jazz Artist (2011, 2012). In 2015, the group was awarded the McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians. Featuring four of Minnesota’s most exciting improvisors and composers, saxophonist Brandon Wozniak, guitarist Zacc Harris, bassist Chris Bates, and drummer Pete Hennig, Atlantis Quartet is a band whose music “defies labels” (MPR).

“Twin Cities jazz renegades shift nimbly from a punk-jazz aesthetic to an ECM-ish sensitivity. Startlingly original stuff.” – Bill Milkowski, JazzTimes Magazine

“The music evolves as a constantly shifting mosaic of textures, rhythmic patterns, and tonal colors.” – Rick Mason, City Pages
