Alex Browne is our resident curator for Monday nights in August (7, 21, 28)! This week features Rawtwhylah and L.A. Buckner & Big Homie.

Get ready to experience a historic blend of jazz, Gospel, hip hop and avant-funk.

Arthur LA Buckner’s compositions soar and sway, blurring the line between Sunday church service and face melting jam sessions.  His artistry is full of energy, excitement, and culture.

What if The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Robert Glasper and Thundercat all fused their sounds together to create something unique? RAWTWHYLAH (pronounced as rottweiler) brings forth the free spirited philosophy of, “No rules, Anything goes” that the Avant-Garde era of music birthed. RAWTWHYLAH’s Caribbean background along with his infatuation for all styles of music creates a high energy, fusion melting pot experience guaranteed to grasp the ear of any musician or anyone with a love for music.

Alex Browne is an improvisational trumpet player originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduate from the University of Minnesota's music program. As of late you can catch Alex with groups like Purple Funk Metropolis, Jaedyn James, Lady Lark, and various productions put together by Kathleen and Kirk Johnson of Prince fame. Alex is using his residency to feature groups and musicians that have inspired him over the years. Calling it the "Jazz is Dead" artist showcase, he aims to bridge the gaps he sees in his music community, as well as challenge the ever-changing narrative of what the label "jazz" can mean.
